Biography
I am the mother of three children, two of which graduated from the San Bernardino City Unified School District. I also have 2 grandchildren who are currently enrolled in our school district. I am a member of several organizations including: League of Women’s Voters, Greater San Bernardino Kiwanis Club, California School Board Association, the Pacific Sociological Association, and the American Sociological Association.
I received my Ph.D. from the University of California Riverside in 1991. I have had a distinguished teaching and research career for 15 years. My teaching and research interests include studies of the family, education, and social policy. During the course of my career I have mentored hundreds of students from different walks of life. Many of the students who come to Cal-State are graduates of the San Bernardino City Unified School District. The majority of students who come from the San Bernardino City Unified School District to attend Cal-State perform quite well and go on to receive their Bachelor’s degree and/or advanced credentials.
As a sociology professor for the last 15 years, I have dedicated my life to improving the quality of life for families in our community. My educational background combined with my school board participation, have provided me with the ability to base school board policy decisions on what is best for all students.
